On January 8th,
1958, a meeting held on the beach resolved that a Life Saving Club
be formed and that affiliation with
the SLSAA be sought. This was granted later that year. Work immediately
started on a foreshore Clubhouse,
which was officially opened by Mr Ainsley Walker, the President
of State Centre on December 26 1958
