On January 4, 1958 a meeting was held on the beach at Wye to start the club. The initial committee consisted of :

Club Captain - Brian Dann, Vice Captain - Noel Jefferson, Gear Steward - Bruce Hocking, Chief Instructor & Social Secretary - Ian Williams, President - A.K.Jefferson, Vice President - A.Jonas, Assistant Secretary - J.Boyd, Secretary - D.Mitchell, Treasurer - R.Coleman

Early committee meetings were held at the Rising Sun Hotel in Footscray.

 

Early fundraising activities included a Miss and Mister Wye River contest and music concerts on the back of a truck in the foreshore. These fundraising activities assisted in the purchase of our first reel and the construction of the club house.

The club house was constructed over 10 working weekends and was officially opened on December 26, 1958.

The initial bunkhouse (Mitchell House) was opened on January 1, 1966.

1958 The First Club House

On January 8th, 1958, a meeting held on the beach resolved that a Life Saving Club be formed and that affiliation with
the SLSAA be sought. This was granted later that year. Work immediately started on a foreshore Clubhouse,
which was officially opened by Mr Ainsley Walker, the President of State Centre on December 26 1958

1959 Wye new reel and Surf Carnival Award

On the 22 January 1961 the club successfully conducted its first full carnival, which gave valuable experience and much needed confidence. 40th Anniversary

On 14th March the club's 40th anniversary celebration was a great success both old and new members enjoyed the celebrations over the weekend. The highlight was the march past in traditional gear of some of the first members of the club anniversary

On 23rd & 24th of Feburary 2008 the club celebrated it's 50th anniversary down at Wye River. The festivities included a Saturday BBQ at midday, beach activities including the 3pm point swim, irb and jetski demonstration, active members photo at 4pm, Clubhouse Cocktail Party 7:30pm – 1am, and a recovery breakfast on Sunday. Everybody seemed to have a great time over the weekend and we had a full house at the cocktail party.
